Description:

You know the story. Billy Joe throws something off a bridge and later decides to go after it. Sounds like a good case for "Law & Order". Live performance from the Smothers Brothers show. PLEASE NOTE: This is posted as a tribute to the artist. If there is a copyright issue, please notify me and it will be promptly deleted

An intersting tibit about Bobbie is she made 3.2 million in royalities from Capitol 1967-73. This became public record when she was forced to give musican Bobby Paris 1% in a lawsuit over a verbal agreement.( Dinan Ross with 16 #1 pop hits at Motown made less than 1 million 1963-1979. She signed with R.C.A in 1980 for twenty million).

Does anyone know where I can get the correct tabs for this song. I've found a couple of different ones but I can't get my head around the picking.

NO! It is safe to say that Amy Winehouse's hair was inspired by Bobby Gentry and other's from the 60's.

Man, I can't believe Gentry's hair! And that leads to a burning question: Which 60's female singer had the biggest "mess" of black hair-her or Cher? Is it safe to say that Gentry's hair was inspired by what Amy Winehouse is wearing now?

When I was young hearing this song, I absolutely loved it! After hearing it this many years later it struck me so hard what the words meant. Suicides and Columbines in our big cities and small towns, passed and present... lost Children. Yesterday, Billy Joe, today, "Pearl Jams', Jeremy". I'm just saying , "I Care".

My recollection was that I ready years ago that Bobbie intentionally kept it vague to leave something to the listeners' imaginations. I could be wrong, but I remember reading that, that she had a specific item in mind (whatever it was they threw off the bridge), but that she never wanted to reveal it to preserve teh song's mystery.

Bobbie, you brought happiness to my life. As a young girl, I used to ride my horse along the bottom land and sing Ode to Billy Joe. Thanks for the memory. Thanks for posting the vid.
